The intensity of the symptoms varies from person to person.

-Perspiration can be anywhere from clammy hands and feet to severe dripping and everywhere in between
-The temperature of the focal area may differ from the other parts of the body
-Peeling of the skin may also be present
-Episodes of profuse sweating may be followed by periods of extreme dryness

Hydration Matters: Spotting Dehydration Signs in Your Toddler

Lifestyle No Comments »

Today, we’re delving into a crucial topic that every parent should be familiar with – identifying dehydration in toddlers. Dehydration is a serious concern, but by knowing the warning signs, you can take quick action to ensure your little one stays healthy and hydrated.

[The Importance of Hydration]
Before we dive into the warning signs, let’s highlight the importance of proper hydration for toddlers. Adequate water intake is essential for their growth and development, and it plays a vital role in various bodily functions. Dehydration can lead to a range of issues, so staying vigilant is key.

[Common Warning Signs]
Now, let’s talk about the common warning signs of dehydration in toddlers:

Dry Mouth and Lips: Pay attention if your toddler’s mouth and lips appear unusually dry or parched.

Decreased Urination: Fewer trips to the bathroom could signal dehydration.

Dark Yellow Urine: Dark-colored urine is often a sign of concentrated waste, indicating a lack of hydration.

Crying Without Tears: If your child cries but doesn’t produce tears, it’s a cause for concern.

Sunken Eyes: Dehydration can make a toddler’s eyes appear sunken or hollow.

Irritability and Fatigue: Look out for signs of increased fussiness, tiredness, or lethargy.

Skin Elasticity: Test your toddler’s skin elasticity; if it doesn’t bounce back quickly when pinched, it may indicate dehydration.

[What to Do]
If you notice any of these warning signs, don’t panic. Instead, take these steps:

Offer Fluids: Encourage your toddler to drink water, clear fluids, or an oral rehydration solution (ORS).

Monitor Intake: Keep a close eye on their fluid intake and ensure they take small sips frequently.

Consult a Pediatrician: If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your pediatrician for guidance.

Avoid Sugary Drinks: Steer clear of sugary beverages that can exacerbate dehydration.

Observe Activity Levels: Limit strenuous activities until your toddler is properly hydrated.

Trust Your Instincts: As a parent, you know your child best; if you’re concerned, seek medical advice promptly.

[Conclusion]
In conclusion, being able to recognize the warning signs of dehydration in toddlers is a crucial skill for every parent. By staying vigilant and taking action when needed, you can ensure your child’s health and well-being. Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, and your little one’s health is worth it.

When we work out, we SWEAT. Often so much you can squeeze a puddle out of your clothes. We know it can be hard on the environment, your wallet, and on your fave workout threads to wash and dry them so often, so is it safe to re-wear clothes you worked out in? Cat Kom and resident laundry expert Bethany have some great tips on re-wearing your workout threads AND on the best ways to care for those performance fabrics.

Can you re-wear that workout ‘fit?

Sports bras, leggings, and socks have the most touch-points to higher bacteria-prone areas on your body, so those are the items you most likely will need to wash with each use. But for whatever threads you do re-wear, here are some great tips!

Tips on how you can best take advantage of wear-overs:

1) Take it off as soon as you’re finished exercising and hang it out to dry, preferably somewhere sunny. This will reduce the growth of bacteria. But if you’ve tried to air-dry your clothes and they’re still damp, from sweat or high humidity, it’s time to wash.

2) Opt for natural fabrics like cotton, or performance fabrics that wick away moisture.

3) Go for looser-fitting clothes such as baggy tops and jogger shorts rather than tight-fitting leggings, lycra shorts, and singlets. Cat even wears tops with ventilating holes that help her stay drier. These will allow more airflow and reduce bacteria.

4) If your sweaty clothes were left in a bag where bacteria can thrive for a long time after your workout, hey, it happens to the best of us, but eew, time to wash them.

5) If your clothes smell after exercise, wash them. They will still smell even if you hang them out to dry!

How to extend the life of our (often expensive) performance fabrics?

1) Rotate your detergent periodically. And try a natural soaking or rinsing helper like baking soda or vinegar. Bethany loves to add distilled white vinegar but warns us that when the clothes come out of the washer, they’ll still carry a vinegar scent. That does disappear when the clothes dry.

2) There are detergents specially formulated for sweaty threads. One of our team swears they even work on sweaty teenager sports uniforms. Some we like:

a. Molly’s Suds All Sport Laundry Wash
b. Rockin’ Green Platinum Active Wear
c. Seventh Generation Concentrated Laundry Detergent
d. The Laundress Sport Detergent

3) Go easy on the detergent. Using too much detergent can cause buildup on your clothes, shortening the lifespan of our fave threads.

4) Wash in cold water. Save your clothes, save some energy.

5) Put your clothes in the sun to dry. Not only are you saving energy, but that beautiful sun is really good for performance fabrics. Cat and Bethany rarely use the dryer for any of their workout clothes.

What can cause excessive sweating on head and face? – Dr. Aruna Prasad

Lifestyle No Comments »

Excess sweating is also called as hyperhydrosis. It can happen can any of these areas like the face, the body, the palms and the soles, anywhere it can happen. There’s no exact reason for this. It can be because of sympathetic nerve supply to the sweat glands, there will be some disruption in it. In that case there are no surgical procedures, no lotions, no tablets. There are anti-cholinergic tablets that are available. The doctor may start them on a small dose and may increase the dose and this may control. There is another form of hyperhidrosis following eating spicy food, sometimes in emotional stress, any stressful condition can develop this. So if you cure the underlying disease. Even some cancer patients do have, also in high fever you can have hyperhidrosis. These are all temporary, can’t be permanent.
